This author`s main emphasis is on emphasis is on the analysis of Agriculture as a spatial subject. For this purpose spatial and temporal variations in cropping pattern and agricultural productivity are systematically analysed for the period 1960-72 in terms of physical, economic and institutional factors influencing them. District is used as the basics unit of data compilation and a regional framework is evolved by grouping districts on the basis of similarities and dissimilarities in agro climatic conditions. The chief merit of this study is that unlike in the earlier studies, the author has attempted to blend the results of the secondary data analysis with the sample survey of land holdings spread over different regions of India. Intra regional and inter regional similarities and dissimilarities in the adoption of new technology and differences in crop productivity are clearly brought out in this analysis.
