There are a number of adages which all speak of the importance of pre-action ˜thinking` or ˜contemplation`. Think twice before you speak. And Look before you leap are few of them. This kind of contemplation or giving a thought prior to any action has always been emphasized and exhorted by the wise. This golden principle equally applies in every walk of life, be it education, economy and business, societal matters, politics or any other.
With the passage of time and due advancement in the educational arena, a separate discipline has evolved, namely ˜Guidance`. Presently, there are numerous branches and sub- branches in education. Having required the primary education, parents are confronted with the thought ˜which is the short-term, economical and most benefiting course to be adopted for our children?`. The reason behind this thought is the dazzling multitude of ˜Ads displayed and running on screens and papers every now and then. Since Information and technology (IT) has brought about a complete revolution in the educational worlds, and the discipline, as a whole, is impossible for one person to have a grasp on, it has been divided into several sub-branches. Every branch has its own advantages and brickbats and of course a distinct flavor. Therefore students are a liberty to opt for any flavor as per their aptitude.
Here is needed the role of Guidance. At this stage, if proper choice is not made, it renders the life of a student tense and unsatisfied, leading to mental chaos. If, on the other hand, proper consultation and advice is sought before making a final decision, it pays a lot in the long run.
This modest work is a step in the same direction. Covering diverse aspects of educational Guidance, it is a must for academics and students alike
