  The Dialogue of Devdas. Bimal Roy`s immortal Classic features the film`s complete dialogue by Rajinder Singh Bedi, based on a screenplay by Nabendu Ghosh. and lyrics by Sahir Ludhianvi. Presented in a three-language format: Hindi. Urdu. Romanised Hindi/Urdu and an English translation, the book also includes an introduction by Nasreen Munni Kabir and comments by Banal Roy`s family.
The hugely popular 1917 Bengali novella "Devdas" by the celebrated author So-at Chandra Chattopadhyay has inspired numerous film versions made in various Indian languages. Iris, however, Bimal Roy`s 1955 film with its excellent and subtle dialogue, fluid direction and sublime cast that instill widely considered the most important adaptation in Hindi/Urdu.

Notes on translator: London-based documentary filmmaker and author. Nasreen Munni Kabir was the first so present Indian film dialogue in a three-language format. starting with Mughal-e-Azorn. and followed by Awoaro, Mother Indio and Pyaoso. AR. Rahman: The Spirit of Music (Om Books International, 2011) was her most recent publication.
