The writings on Punjab are, in most cases, long on rhetoric but short in substance. In consequence, there is in them a lot of colour and confusion in place of comprehension and clarity.
Surprisingly, there is no dearth of people even today who still get rosy fragrance from John Lawrence`s smelly, stinking rule over Punjab from 1849 through 1857.
