Indians have been visiting or settling in Britain since the early 1600s, about as long as Britons have been sailing to India. Forming "Counterflows" to Britain colonialising over India, they entered Britain , lived amoung Britons, and produced knowledge in ways that complled British responces. The context for these interactions and representations of self amd the other was colonialising as it developed over time. Colonialism powerfully altered what being "India" Meant culturally and legally in Britain. meaning which often developed quite differently in India. This book surveys and analyses the range of Indians who ventured to Britain during the 250 year transition to colonialism, the many reasons they undertook this voyage, their diverse lived experiences and actions there, and contrasting representation of self and other by Indians as well as Britons.
