The concept of Term Books, which combine the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Environmental Studies, Science and Social Studies, has caught on very fast because of the advantages it offers in lightening the burden of primary school children.
Sangam National (2nd edition) is a set of 15 books for classes 1 to 5, patterned as follows:
* Sangam National Classes 1 and 2; Terms 1 - 3: consisting of English, Mathematics and Environmental Studies.
* Sangam National Classes 3 - 5; Terms 1 - 3: consisting of English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.
This revised edition takes into account the current NCERT and ICSE thinking, at the same time giving due weightage to the opinions of teachers from across the country.
* In keeping with the current thinking, the information burden in EVS, Science and Social Studies has been reduced a little at some places, and greater emphasis has been given to developing concepts.
* Some conceptually difficult topics in Mathematics have been moved to a higher term/class. At the same time number of exercises in the more basic topics has been increased, to further strenghthen concepts and develop operatonal skills.
* In view of the feedback received from teachers who have used the series, some restructuring of material has been carried out between the terms, particularly in Mathematics classes 1 and 2, and Social Studies class 4.
