This work seeks to examine the evolution of British paramount in the Princely State of Jaipur from 1818, when the State came under British protection, to 1905, when the process reached its culmination. The roots of British paramount could be perceived during the period of East India Company`s rule, but it was under the Crown that the paramount assumed wide dimensions in response to the growing requirements of the Imperial Government. In the post-1858 period there was an ever-increasing intervention of the British Government in the internal affairs of the State even in violation of the treaty of 1818. The vast and various fields in which such an intervention was exercised were the matters.
