This volume of scholarly essays probes into some important aspects in the history of education. The themes dealt with are of interest to both educationists and historians. The origin and growth of the modern system of education in India: the indigenous system of education on the eve of British rule; the development of technical education: colonial educational policies and practices; the education of the East India Companys civil servants; and towards a new history of education. These are some of the subjects dealt with in this collection. Educational history is a subject which has so far been neglected by educationists and historians. This volume should, therefore, be welcome to all interested in education as well as in the history of modern India.ISBN:8170221595
