The book offers a comprehensive study of the fundamentals of material science and workshop technology. There are many books written in the past on this subject by learned authors but while teaching this course to undergraduate engineering students over a period of more than 30 years, some deficiencies were observed to cope with a single book as per prescribed syllabus, especially for UPTU (Lucknow).
The book constitutes of four main units that fits into the syllabus of engineering colleges, belonging to various universities and especially to UPTU (Lucknow). The 1st Units comprises of four chapters, where properties of materials ferrous materials and their alloys, heat treatment of ferrous metals, non-ferrous metal and their alloys has been discussed. Certain aspect of these topics has been given at the end of their respective chapters in tabular form.
