This book is organized around the various sensing techniques used to achieve structural health monitoring. Its main focus is on sensors, signal and data reduction methods and inverse techniques, which enable the identification of the physical parameters, affected by the presence of the damage, on which a diagnostic is established. Structural Health Monitoring is not oriented by the type of applications or linked to special classes of problems, but rather presents broader families of techniques vibration and modal analysis; optical fiber sensing; acoustoultrasonics, using piezoelectric transducers; and electric and electromagnetic techniques. About Author: Daniel Balageas, Deputy Head of the Structures and Damage Mechanics Department (DMSE) at ONERA and part-time Associate Professor at ENS-Cachan, France, has 40 years of experience in aerospace research. He is the author of more than 80 publications and papers in NDE and 30 in the SHM field. He launched the European Workshop on SHM in 2002. Claus-Peter Fritzen, Professor of Mechanics within the Institute of Mechanics and Control-Mechatronics at the University of Siegen (Germany), is a researcher in the fields of vibrations, structural identification, smart structures and SHM. He has also written numerous papers and journal articles on damage identification and SHM. Alfredo Guemes is Professor of Material Science, Director of the AerospaceMaterials & Processes Department at the Ploytechnic University of Madridand Co-Chairman of the Stanford International Workshops on SHM since 1997.
