Measurements And Quantum Probabilities: Studies In Conceptual And Mathematical Foundations Of Quantum Theory

Measurements And Quantum Probabilities: Studies In Conceptual And Mathematical Foundations Of Quantum Theory by Srinivas, M. D.

This book explores the fascinating interplay between the quantum theory of measurements and the observable predictions of quantum theory, namely, the joint probabilities associated with successive measurements. The studies compiled here explore what important consequences the collapse postulate — which describes the change in the state of a system consequent to a measurement — has on the observable predictions of quantum theory. In the process, they unravel the novel mathematical structure of quantum theoretical probabilities and also lead to significant extensions of the conventional formulation of quantum theory, which are necessary to discuss important and commonly encountered physical situations. 283pp (2001) 240 ×158 mm ISBN 81 7371 370 7
