Economic theories have, in most cases, not been mere products of intellectual speculation, but have evolved from responses to problems confronted by a society. These theoretical arguments would be adduced to the solutions advanced with supportive allusions to principles of ethics, religion, law, philosophy, etc. It is from such a standpoint that the author first considers the intellectual passage from classical political economy to the supply and demand based equilibrium theories, bringing with it a significant methodological and structural shift.
