Reflections of the Spirit is the outcome of the 30years Pepita Seth has spent photographing Hindu rituals in India`s south-western state of Kerala. More specifically, it focusses on the seven years she has devoted to the ancient Malabar performance-ritual of Theyyam, where empowered men, after suitable mental, physical and spirations, " become" the deities. The defining moment comes when they gaze into a mirror and see not their own made-up face but a reflection of the deity. Pepita Seth`s first photographic exhibition was, at the request of the religious authorities, held in a Kerala temple in South India. Since then her work has been shown in the US, UK and India. Pepita Seth was born in England in 1942 and she presently lives in New Delhi.
