Frederick Wilson was a nabob of the north Indian hills. A character of legend to this day in Garhwal, he was a British soldier-turned-entrepreneur who went native and whose phenomenal prosperity (by selling timber to the railways) made him India’s first timber magnate.

This is the first biography of one of the most interesting characters to have inhabited the Himalaya in the 19th century.
