The goal of this short book is to introduce B R Ambedkar, to the young and enterprising social scientists of Bengal, who read him rarely, and understand his contribution and emanicipatory role in the post-colonial Indian social history, his progressive vision in the realization of social justice, his path-breaking praxis of political identity reformulation and redefinition of religion as an all-inclusive socio-political and cultural option, and his unifying mass mobilization of the deprived and underprivileged, cutting across all socially constructed barriers, through a non-nomenclature based identity reformulation. The book attempts to re-invent Ambedkar in the light of the monster trinity of “ distance, discrimination and degradation “ embedded in the contemporary Indian society; and examine how dignity, self-esteem, and confidence that Ambedkar strived instill in the consciousness of the Indians can not be diluted in the dichotomy of tradition versus Modernity.
