In his latest book Development Management Under Evolving Paradigms- The Indian Case, Asit Banerji stresses the need to have a well thought out strategy for managing the development processes in India. This can be achieved through the major reordering of the investment priorities aimed at developing physical and institutional infrastructure in the organized as well as the rural sector, an acceleration of the development of the agricultural and the rural sectors where most of the poor are located, a renewed push to public investment for the creation of public goods (assets) and systems to combat poverty and unemployment among the poor. The challenges thrown up by this task would require effective utilization of the material, human and emotional resources at each level of the system and it is for managing the development processes at each operational level of Indian Society that the author suggests a definite strategy.
