This is the third volume of Selected Papers of C.R. Rao containing 38 papers published during 1965-1974 on characterizations of distributions, Generalised inverses of Matrices, Linear estimation, Discriminant analysis. Statistical Inference from Finite Populations and Finite Geometries, which are frequently referred to. Applications of solutions of functional equations in characterisations of various distributions, the theory of generalised inverses of matrices and unified theory of least squares estimation have opened new directions of research and extensive work is being carried out in these topics. As with the earlier volumes, the papers that have originally appeared in various publications have been retypeset to maintain uniformity in presentation. Work on volumes 4 and 5 is in progress and they are expected to be released soon. A comprehensive overview of the total opus of C.R.
