India is considered the Home of spices since ancient times. Although different spices are produced in different countries of the world, India has the privilege of producing all types of spices. In some spices like black peper, cardamom and turmeric, India holds top position among major producing countries of the world. However, the export performance of our spices has not heen satisfactory. As a result, India has been loosing its prominent place in the world. This study has, therefore, endeavoured to analyse the major factors responsible for erratic trends in production and productivity. It has suggested suitiable measures for increasing the existing level of production and productivity. This study should provide a broad base and useful giudelines to all concerned.
