When similar disputes are moving toward peaceful solutions, Kashmir remains at the centre of a bitter custody battle between India and Pakistan. Mustaqur Rahman takes us through the evolution of the Kashmir conflict, exploring the history of the region, its geography, population and economy, and the role that the Kashmiri People’s Movement has played. He also describes the numerous unsuccessful attempts at finding an acceptable resolution to the problem.
Himself a Pakistani, Rahman concludes with his own neutral solution- based on geography, demography, and the historical precedent of the Indus Waters Treaty- for a harmonious future.
