This is a manual of anesthetic methods for general duty doctors who are not specialist anesthetists; for medical students, and for medical assistants. Although it is mainly intended for countries of the developing world where there is little money available for health care and a great lack of specialist anesthetists, it will also be useful to anyone who has to give an anesthetic unexpectedly and whose previous experience is limited. Two surgical manuals are shortly to be published in the same series and will be cross referenced to it. The main method of general anesthesia is ether with air as a carrier gas; ketamine, epidural and sub arachnoid anesthesia are described in detail, so are many methods of local and regional anaesthesia, intubation and the use of relaxants. There is a chapter on "primary intensive care", and a final one containing 150 multiple choice questions; one of the appendices contains a detailed equipment list. ISBN - 9780195626179
