Panorama photography is as old as photography itself, and both can look back on a 150-year old history. The first landscape photos to find a place on a wall were panoramas. This was because the technique involved was able to conceal the imperfections of the early lenses. The panoramic photographs from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Calcutta to Kutch in this volume are not merely normal photographs cuts to a narrow size but otherwise made with a conventional camera. The FT-2 panoramic xamera looks at a landscape through the rotating lens - the way people view things by simply turning their heads. A slit firmly connected with the lens runs along the film, which lies on a cylindrical path in the camera.
